Capacity Building: Establishment of WASHCOM

As part of Optimal Greening’s transformative capacity-building workshop, Eginrin-Ekun community achieved a significant milestone by establishing a Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Committee (WASHCOM). This governance body is designed to oversee water facility management, promote active community participation, and empower residents to take ownership of their WASH systems.

The newly formed WASHCOM is diverse and inclusive, representing the various groups in the community, including leaders, students, women, and girls. This ensures equitable participation and a shared voice in decision-making around water and sanitation governance.

The creation of WASHCOM was a direct outcome of the workshop’s practical sessions, which emphasized principles of good governance such as transparency, accountability, and community involvement. Guided by these principles, Eginrin-Ekun community collaborated to define clear roles and responsibilities for each WASHCOM member, laying the foundation for effective leadership and sustainable operations.

The establishment of WASHCOM ensures the long-term sustainability of local WASH facilities and also highlights the lasting impact of our capacity-building initiatives.
